So I decided to head downtown to the Portland Waterfront around 8pm to take some photos of the Willamette River and some of Portland's well known bridges: the Morrison Bridge, the Burnside Bridge and the Steel Bridge.
I want to share a quick story about a little encounter I had while roaming the Waterfront. I wanted to walk across the Burnside Bridge to shoot an image of the Steel Bridge, so as I was walking up the stairs that led to the bridge I stumbled across a sleeping homeless man. I was very careful to sneak by him quietly to be sure I didn't disturb his sleep, and I was successful in slipping on by without disturbing him. Now, on my way down I was not so lucky. As I was coming down the stairs I might have been talking a bit too loud, because as I stepped directly by him he jumped up and lunged at me. He was screaming at me in a way I can't even describe, but it scared me enough to start running. Luckily I was not alone; a friend of mine pushed me past him and made sure he didn't hurt me. I don't get scared often, but this man was extremely frightening. I learned a couple valuable lessons that night: I should never go shooting downtown at night alone, make sure to always carry my pepper spray, and learn how to use my tripod as a weapon. =)
Anyways, I wanted to share a few of my images from that evening.
